Exiled Taliban Leader Returns to Afghanistan

This video from Taliban-run media appears to show Abdul Ghani Baradar arriving in Kandahar being escorted off the plane by supporters. He appears to have flown in from Qatar where he had been living previously.

Baradar is one of the four co-founders of the Taliban. He had spent eight years in a Pakistani prison from 2010 until 2018 when the Trump administration convinced Pakistan to release him for the U-S to begin pursuing peace talks with the group. Baradar and the U-S signed the Doha agreement in February 2020, a deal for the withdrawal of U-S troops from Afghanistan in return for a Taliban pledge to prevent terrorist groups from operating in the country.
